The BLUES is ALIVE

Friendship and music come alive in this soulful journey.

Our Story

The Blues Is Alive is directed by Italian filmmaker Gianni Petrizzo and produced by Mauro Cianciulli. The film is an intimate journey into friendship, music, and cultural discovery.

After many years apart, Gianni and Mauro reunite in Dallas to celebrate Mauro’s wedding anniversary. Mauro has been living in the city for over thirty years, working as a construction builder by day and dedicating his nights to blues music. Armed with his harmonica, he performs regularly in local clubs, fully immersed in the city’s underground blues scene.

Through Gianni’s perspective—initially distant from both Mauro’s lifestyle and the blues itself—the film unfolds as a gradual process of observation and transformation. A pivotal encounter with a poet becomes the catalyst for a deeper understanding, reshaping Gianni’s relationship with the music and its cultural roots.

This turning point leads to the creation of a road documentary that traces the origins of the blues, traveling from Mississippi to Memphis and New Orleans, before returning to Dallas. The Blues Is Alive explores the enduring spirit of the blues as both a musical tradition and a living, evolving expression of identity, memory, and human connection.
